4. Do any toll motorways or other tolled infrastructures exist in other countries?
There are toll motorways or tolled infrastructures in many European countries, such as France, Spain, Austria, Portugal, Greece, Slovenia, Norway, Belgium, Hungary, Croatia, Sweden, Denmark. The managers of these countries are united in a European association, ASECAP (Association Europčenne des Concessionnaires d'Autoroutes et d'Ouvrages ą Pčage). In all the continents a great number of tolled infrastructures exist as well, gathered in IBTTA (International Bridges, Tunnels and Turnpikes Association).

INFORMATION ABOUT TRAFFIC
5. When is it the best time to begin a trip?
In some periods of the year, specifically in presence of holidays, we can be in presence of traffic concentration; so to prevent some possible problems for circulation and/or for safety, we suggest to make the so-called "partenze intelligenti", Smart Leaving. For the same reason the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport releases trucks circulation calendar.

6. How and from whom can I get traffic information?
General interest information about circulation and weather are provided by:
CCISS
Radio RAI
Isoradio
RTL 102,5 Viaradio
Inforadio
Televideo
Mediavideo
Televideo Regionale
Televisione
Telefono (fisso e cellulare)

7. Where can I refuel when I am in a motorway?
On Italian motorways, service areas are located approximately every 25 km. All service areas have fuel stations that are open 24 hours a day, and in 98% of cases they also have restoration facilities. Service station signalling panels within 2 km of each station indicate which services it provides.

THE TOLL
11. How is the toll amount calculated?
The toll amount is calculated multiplying driven kilometres and unit tariffs, adding also taxes and additional burdens provided by the current laws.

12. How many types of toll gates are there in a toll station?
It can be found manual gates, where we find a toll collector, automatic gates where it is possible to pay by cash, automatic gates where you can pay by magnetic cards and at last Telepass gates.

13. In what manner can I pay toll?
It can be paid in the following ways:
AISCAT co-ordinates
Viacard
Fastpay
Credit cards
Telepass
Ativa card
Savcard

14. Why do we pay toll?
Toll is the most effective mechanism of road infrastructure funding. Indeed it connects directly operators costs and revenues, users benefits and burdens. The service itself profits by toll revenues, improving its efficiency. The final outcome is that motorways, bridges and tunnels subjected to a toll are the best built, the safest, the best patrolled and with the best maintenance.

Besides, toll is only paid by who uses motorway, so that it doesn't weigh on that people who don't use it; thus, on the one hand tolls aims to fund new constructions and on the other hand, it limits taxes, that are in any case necessary. We often forget that all roads must be paid for, anyway. In some cases the question is not if building a toll motorway or not. Limited resources bring to the only choice: the toll structure or none.

At last, the projects and investments for a toll structure can be accomplished more quickly than those related to toll free structures that needs taxes to be realised, because it's possible to use private funding, preventing additional burdens on the State.

15. What are the criteria used to set out toll?
First we state that fares are fixed and revised according to the laws established by State. The unit tariff changes in function of vehicle class (e.g. light or heavy), and of motorway features (for example if it's a mountain or a plain motorway). The amount of toll is calculated multiplying driven kilometres by unit tariff (Euro/km), adding also taxes and additional burdens provided by the current laws. It must underlined that everything above-said is controlled by the Grantor, ANAS, and it's based on an agreement between Concessionaire and the same Grantor itself.

VEHICLES EXCEEDING ALLOWED WEIGHT AND DIMENSION (EXCEPTIONAL TRANSPORTS)
16. Which vehicles exceed allowed weight and dimension (Exceptional Transports)?
"Exceptional Transports" and movement of exceptional vehicles on motorway and roads are ruled by The article 10 of Road Code.

17. Who do I call to have "Exceptional Transport" assistance and/or authorization?
As specified in the article 10 of Road Code infrastructure owners or concessionaries are responsible for "Exceptional Transport" authorization management.

18. What kind of laws, ruling "Exceptional Transport", am I subjected to?
Basing on article 10 of Road Code, infrastructure owners or concessionaries toll "Exceptional Transport".
