European Road Safety Day - 27th of APRIL 2007

EUROPEAN ROAD SAFETY DAY
27th of APRIL 2007

YOUTH ON THE ROAD: ROAD SAFETY IS NO ACCIDENT

In the framework of the Road Safety World Week promoted by the United Nations from the 23rd until the 27th of April 2007, the European Commission, following the initiative of its Vice-President, Commissioner Jacques Barrot in charge of the European Transport Policy, decided to organise the first European Road Safety Day on the 27th of April, by dedicating this day in particular to young people, through the slogan “Youth on the road: road safety is no accident” EC organises a specific event in Brussels on the 27th itself, with the participation of representatives of the European Institutions in charge of Transport Policy and Road Safety, as well as citizens of the European Union engaged in the promotion of road safety “culture” in favour of young people.

In parallel with the Brussels event, the EC recommends, in particular to those organisations, like Aiscat, which have signed the European Road Safety Charter, to organise that same day, specific events in their countries, focussed on a particular subject related to road safety and young people.

In this framework, Aiscat is organising an event on a rest area along its A1 motorway network, called Fiano ovest, close to Rome. Students from the secondary school will attend the event, where Road Police will show its patrols used on the Motorways and representatives of the Association will explain to the students what the Toll concessionaires do in order to promote Road Safety.
